The New York World’s Fair time capsules were created by the Westinghouse Electric Company for the 1939 and 1964 fairs. Buried in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, each capsule contains everyday items and messages intended for future generations. The first is to be opened in the year 6939, 5,000 years after its burial.
Contents include a Sears catalog, a Mickey Mouse watch, microfilm books, and even a pack of cigarettes, offering a unique glimpse into 20th-century life and culture. So pop the year into your calendar.
Fun fact, the area is predicted to be underwater by 2080, so we will wait with baited breathe how it all works out.
