If you hear an outdoor emergency siren it means that something life-threatening is happening and you should go indoors and get more information.

Sirens are an outdoor warning system designed only to alert those who are outside that something dangerous is about to occur or has occurred.

This includes a significant weather event, terrorism. When and for they are sounded for is dependent on the jurisdiction.

Siren testing

Sirens are typically tested at 12 noon. The day depends on the jurisdiction.

It is typically known throughout the geo area when testing will take place. Most places advertise when testing is to occur.

Siren sounded

If you hear the siren outside of 12 noon, treat as real until further is known.

Head indoors.
