Stop
As soon as you realize you may be lost, stop.
Think
Go over in your mind how you got to where you are. Can you retrace your steps? This could be a way to return to a recognizable place.
What landmarks should you be able to see?
Do not move at all until you have a specific reason to take a step.
Observe
Identify landmarks to gain your location
Use higher ground to assist
Plan
Based on your planned response, come up with some possible plans, think them through then act on one of them.
If you are not confident in the route chosen, then stay put.
If it is nightfall, you are injured or you are near exhaustion, stay in place.
Tell
If you have cell signal, tell contacts what has happened, activate Help in Ylore and your location will be actively shared with selected contacts.
If you are concerned for your immediate welfare or have an injury, contact emergency services
On foot in non-metropolitan locations:
– Rest in the shade where possible.
– Drink enough water to avoid dehydration.
– Stop and fix small problems. If you ignore your body and try to push through pain or ignore illness, it may make things worse and make recovery more difficult.
You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of those around you.
Contacting emergency services
If you do not have mobile phone signal, move to higher ground.
Deep valleys and mountainous areas often have no cell coverage
