Guidance

You can become lost due to inaccurate hardcopy maps or no cell phone signal for your online map navigation system.

Stay with your vehicle. A vehicle can be spotted much more easily by search missions from the air.

Move the vehicle into an open space and open the bonnet and doors so it’s easier to see from the air and the ground.

Remove your side mirrors and use them to reflect the sun at distant vehicles or aircraft to catch their attention.

Find or build shade near your vehicle.

Engage in minimal physical activity.

Stay warm at night. Use blankets, clothing around your person and vegetation to create shelter and insulation between yourself and the ground.

It is not recommended, but if you do move away from a vehicle, look for and follow manmade features such as fences, as farmers conduct regular checks on their fence lines.

Walking out on foot would be considered a last course of action.

Activate Help in Ylore and notify your selected contacts, who can view your live location.

Contacting emergency services

If you do not have cell signal, move to higher ground. Deep valleys and mountainous areas often have no cell coverage.

Tell the dispatcher how you came to be at your location.

Detail your cell phone battery charge.

If you receive instructions to travel in a particular direction, you can access a compass in your iPhone. Access Utilities, Compass. Turn to the direction required.
