Guidance
Tips you can use to reduce the risk of a child becoming lost, or if they do become lost, how you can time compress the event.
Dress
When attending large or high pedestrian traffic events, take a few minutes to prepare your child, so in the event they get lost, it is easier to locate them.
Consider fitting them with clothing that is easy to identify for a distance. Bright colors work.
This makes it easier in the event a child is lost, for safety staff and emergency services to location when traveling in vehicles.
Create a lost plan
When you get to the venue or area, identify a prominent location that would be identifiable to a child.
Advise them that if they get lost, to return to the agreed location.
If a child is lost, return to the agreed location on a regular basis or have another person wait.
Tracking
Use a tracking device, such as an Apple AirTag and fasten into their clothing.
If they have a mobile phone, ensure they have sufficient battery charge to cover live sharing.
Age dependent, if they have a mobile phone with the Ylore app, they can activate the Help button.
It is important to have a discussion and to build trust as to the reasons for the tracking devices. Children often see it as a negative, depending on their age.
CCTV
Point out to the child/children CCTV points, which are generally located at the entrance to large venues.
Walk in front of the CCTV to capture the details. If a child is lost, it serves as a start point that responders can use, to track the movements of the child. in some jurisdictions facial recognition is permitted. This can be used to assist in identifying movements of the child and provides an area for search.
Panic and declaring lost
Avoid broadcasting that there is a lost child. Get in contact with security or emergency services.
There are unsavory people in the public domain, who take advantage of this information.
