Guidance
Help yourself avoid the cold and its effects.
Wearing the right clothing for the environment can reduce the risk of interruption to your routine.
Wear clothing that is not tight on your person. Tight clothing reduces blood circulation. Warm blood needs to be circulated to the extremities.
Wear:
– Inner and outer layers that will keep you dry.
– A hat or hood that covers your ears, and a knit mask for your face (if needed).
– Waterproof and insulated boots.
– Waterproof and insulated gloves. If you are working outdoors, carry extra clothes in case the ones you are wearing get wet.
Tips
Remember – you are at a higher risk if you take certain medications, are in poor physical condition, or suffer from illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, or cardiovascular disease.
Drink plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Learn the signs and symptoms of cold weather illnesses and injuries.
Take frequent breaks in a warm area.
Travel in pairs so you and your partner can spot the danger signs of cold impacts.
Get medical help immediately if you or another has symptoms of hypothermia or another cold-related illness or injury.
