Guidance
Emergency services dispatchers ask questions to assess the situation and deploy resources accordingly.
Stay calm and speak slowly.
Do not hang up until the call taker tells you to.
Questions a dispatcher may ask include:
Reporting person
Detail your name, cell number and location
You may be asked for the address and closest cross (nearest intersecting) street.
If you do not know the location, look for points of reference such as notable buildings or infrastructure.
Patient basics
You may be asked:
– Gender of the person injured
– Approximate age
– Are they conscious and breathing
Detailed assessment
You may be asked:
– Details of the situation, what has happened, including any scene safety concerns
– How many people need medical assistance
– Condition of patient(s)
Patient critical
If a situation is critical and your intervention is required to keep them alive until emergency services arrive, you may be asked by the dispatcher to perform medical activities.
Location Location Location
Dispatchers need to know where the injured party is located.
Share your location with them.
You can select the Live Now feature in Ylore, select yourself as a contact, then copy the the web browser link.
The dispatcher, if they have a 911 Next Gen capable system, will send a link to your phone, which will enable you to paste the Live Now link.
The dispatcher will be able to view your live location, for however long you have set it for.
