Guidance

General personal safety tips you can use, to reduce the risk of unwanted or unplanned events.

Be aware of your surroundings

Pay attention to your surroundings at all times.

Stay alert, especially in unfamiliar or potentially risky environments.

Avoid distractions like excessive phone use or wearing headphones that may compromise your awareness.

Trust your instincts

Trust your gut instincts.

If something feels off or unsafe, remove yourself from the situation or environment.

It’s better to be cautious than to take unnecessary risks.

Plan and share your itinerary

When going out alone or traveling, inform someone you trust about your plans, including where you’re going, when you expect to return, and any changes to your itinerary.

Use Ylore Live Sharing features and share your journey. Contacts receive an SMS with a link, which they can view on any device. They receive an SMS when you arrive at your end destination or complete the time sharing period.

When on foot travel in well-lit and populated areas

Stick to well-lit areas with a decent amount of foot traffic, especially during nighttime. Avoid isolated or poorly lit areas, as they can increase the risk of potential threats.

Secure your belongings

Keep your personal belongings secure and in sight.

Be mindful of motor scooters in your vicinity. In some countries a typical scenario is two persons on a motor scooter, with the rear person snatch/grabbing the bag, before the owner has an opportunity to respond.

Use bags that can be closed or zipped properly and consider using cross-body straps to deter theft.

Avoid displaying valuable items openly, as they may attract unwanted attention.

Practice caution with strangers

Be cautious when interacting with strangers.

Maintain a comfortable distance, especially in unfamiliar or potentially risky situations. A comfortable distance is one that gives you time to respond if they do X, you do Y.

Avoid sharing personal information unless necessary and trust your judgment when assessing others.

Distractions

Be aware of people deliberately distracting you.

Thieves sometimes work in teams, with one distracting you, while the other helps themselves to your property. Just be aware of this practice.

Maintaining a comfortable distance and being situationally aware will reduce this risk.

Use reliable transportation

When using transportation services, opt for reputable and licensed providers.

If using ride-sharing services, verify the driver’s identity and compare it to the information on your app.

Share your trip details with a trusted person.

Keep emergency contacts handy

Store important emergency contact numbers, such as local authorities, your designated emergency contacts, and medical services, in your phone and/or carry them in a readily accessible place.

Learn self-defense techniques

Consider learning basic self-defense techniques or taking self-defense classes.

These skills can boost your confidence and help you protect yourself if confronted with a threatening situation.

Stay sober and in control

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption or drug use, as they can impair your judgment and make you more vulnerable to dangerous situations.

Stay in control of your faculties to make sound decisions and stay aware of your surroundings.

Remember, personal safety is a priority, and these tips are intended to help you reduce risks.

Adapt them to your specific circumstances and always use common sense.
